OK, I give up and succumb to the allure of finding that special person on the Internet. Its not that I can't find women but that I am rather selective, to a fault perhaps.
As a 50-something with a 30-something heart, I consider myself mature but still with a sense of -- and need for - adventure. I live a life very much as Don Blanding described in his poem, "The Double Life." With the difference that the adventurous part of me does want someone to share and, more importantly, to enjoy both the home and adventurous lives. I should note here that I'm not talking "extreme" adventure but traveling, sailing, canoeing, camping, hiking, snorkeling & diving (warm water, mostly shallow) -- all things that explore our natual and cultural worlds.
I have a small farm in Leelanau County where I spend May through October (that's the home part) and from Nov. through April I am usually in the Bahamas (or other warm place), mostly sailing, doing marine science & education and island-hopping. I find it about as close to ideal as it gets but have also observed that the less-than-perfect realities of farm, boat and island life do not work for many women. I generally enjoy traveling according to Rick Steves' mantra: the less you spend, the more you experience. If you need upscale hotels or all-inclusive resorts (even if you're paying!), move on to the next ad.
So, that said, the woman I seek will also be:
- curious and intelligent (redundant, I suppose)
- liberal-minded and open to ideas (again, redundant)
- still able to feel a sense of wonder (frequently)
- a kind person, more of a giver than a taker (not just in a relationship but in general)
- even-termpered (I don't deal with emotional roller coasters very well)
- organized, neat and clean (but not obsessively so)
- someone who enjoys the arts, reading and with eclectic musical tastes
- enjoy all parts of the food cycle: growing, preserving, cooking, dining
- truly comfortable on sailboats and just about anything else that floats (a must!)
- at home in and with nature: the farm, woods, mountains, lakes, rivers, oceans
- comfortable in grubby jeans, a bathing suit or, for those special occasions, a little black dress

Bonfire season again (repost) (El Crapids)
Strange, not only did I only get spam responses last night, someone flagged my ad (apparently as spam). A first time for that, but hey... I'm too real. Repost of last night's text follows (soup was good BTW, and both Jupiter and Mars were visible):
As luck would have it, I just finished burning the last of a bunch of brush this afternoon and it's still (barely) warm enough to have a bonfire for fun! I have some Boy Scout water ready to go (drained the snowblower) so my success is pretty much guaranteed. I've just made a pot of spicy soup, which I'm going to pour into a thermos and take outside as soon as I post this.
What I'm missing is a pretty lady to share it all with. I'm not in a good place to spot the waning Venus, but Jupiter may peek through the clouds later and Mars will put in a ruddy appearance should the skies permit. It would be nice to share bonfires, kayaking, cold drinks made with firewater, deep conversations and snuggles under goose down. I'd like someone who's in a mood to start some long-term (18+ year) mutual projects; I've got the rest of my life in front of me, after all, and it's good to spend it on something worthwhile.
If this is at all like you, drop me a line. And yes, I'm the photographer.
