Wilderness canoe trip anyone? (Adirondacks/Vermont) 55yr
I'm looking for a woman inclined towards loons, sunsets over remote backcountry lakes and the sense of peace that can be found paddling wild rivers. After a "getting to know you" period, I'd like to think in terms of a wilderness trip, perhaps in Canada. I've been going up there, in particular to Algonquin Park, but also the north shore of Lake Superior, for thirty years. These are remote places where we sometimes paddle for days without seeing another person.
Obviously some degree of physical fitness is required, but you don't have to be an Amazon. I've done these trips with friends who were average in terms of strength and endurance. I've traveled up there with everyone from a 45 year old CEO of a major Vermont company to a desk bound social worker, and haven't lost anyone yet to the bears or even to physical exhaustion.
As for me, I make my living as a writer, mostly poetry these days, and artist. I've been doing this for 19 years. I write and paint about my love of wild places and what it means to live a meaningful, creative life.
I live part time in a cabin on a large nature preserve in the Adirondacks, part time about half an hour south of Burlington. I like to go back and forth between the city with its performing arts and good restaurants, and the peace I find in the woods and on mountaintops. I think our culture needs voices from the periphery, voices closely connected to wild nature.
Inner beauty means more to me than physical beauty. A peaceful soul, courageous heart and adventurous spirit would probably describe most of my friends, male and female.
